Juliette Gordon Low's Birthday Celebration

Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, for a local Girl Scout meeting. She believed that all girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. With the goal of bringing girls out of isolated home environments and into community service and the open air, Girl Scouts hiked, played basketball, went on camping trips, learned how to tell time by the stars, and studied first aid. Today we celebrated her birthday, October 31st, with yummy ice cream treats!

Father Daughter Jubilee

Hairspray filled the air, curling irons were hot, nail polish was being applied, dresses were being put on, and the girl scouts were smiling as they got ready for the Father Daughter Jubilee! During the meeting the moms put together boutonnieres for the dads! They looked awesome!

The dads all showed up for pictures with the girls and then headed out for an evening of dancing with their daughters!

I was able to snap a few group pictures before they left - PRICELESS!

I even snuck in and got a few pictures of the girls at the dance! When I got their, the girls were in the middle of the room practicing the Brownie Circle! AWESOME!

Meeting No. 2 - A World of Colors and Shapes

Another great meeting! The girls started out by cutting sponges into really neat shapes and with paint decorated blank cards to send out to family and friends. Then we learned about primary colors and guessed what mixing certain colors would do. Then they tried it and created very colorful masterpieces! The last activity they did was use yarn and glue to create a pumpkin yarn painting! The girls did a great job and completed their first try-it! Way to go Girl Scouts!
To the family members and friends who donated money - we thank you! Look for a special treat in the mail in a few weeks!
Thank you to Rachel and Brittney for the healthy fruit and muffins! They were yummy! And thank you to Debbie for taking pictures at the meeting!

Girls Rock Event!

Our troop attended the Girls Rock Event today! It was our first outing as a troop and we all had a blast!

The girls learned about portion sizes and about eating healthy foods!
They received backstage passes to a room full of Girl Scouts decorating guitars. Despite the VERY crowded room with no air conditioner, the girls did a great job!
 Troop 457 ROCKS!
A little "Simon Says" in between stations!
And of course "Duck Duck Goose"
The girls also learned about how important exercise is! They stretched and then did a little yoga!
Scary faces!

We were very proud of our troop today! Thank you to Dove for sponsoring this Girl Scout event and for promoting self esteem in our girls!

Meeting No. 1 - Introduction to Girl Scouts

Our first meeting could not have gone any better! The girls had a great time weaving Halloween colors together for part of the Colors and Shapes Try-It. We went over the Girl Scout Promise and the Law for the first time, and discussed the meaning behind the insignia that they will wear on the front of their vest. We also talked about what they would like to do in Girl Scouts this year. I think their favorite part might have been the Brownie Circle!

Thank you to the moms for scheduling snacks for the year and to Julia for taking photos during the meeting! This is going to be a fabulous fun-filled year for the girls!

Recruitment was a Success!

We are so excited about the number of girls wanting to join our troop! While the parents went over all of the information, each girl came up with a question to ask the other girls that would help them get to know each other! Questions like "What is your favorite ice cream?" "Do you like to wear jewelry?" and "What is your favorite animal?" were just a few!

Answers to these questions will be posted soon! All of the girls seemed very excited tonight! We are looking forward to our first troop meeting this weekend! Thank you to all the parents who came to the meeting, and for those of you who couldn't - we look forward to meeting you this weekend!
