Meeting No. 9 - Testing our Money Manager Skills

For the 2nd part of the Money Manager Badge, we traveled to our local Wal-mart! The girls were asked to find 5 food items they needed to be healthy and strong, and stay within $30. They learned how to weigh their fruits and veggies and how to make good healthy choices!

Then the girls learned the difference between their wants and needs when they only had $15 pretend dollars to spend on school supplies. (We all know that school supplies - even the basics - cost WAY more than $15!!)

The last task for the meeting was for the girls to make a list of clothing items that everyone needs. Were they able to get the perfect outfit for less than $30, or did they have to decide what items were necessary and what items they could live without!

Thank you Wal-Mart for allowing us to use your store for our Girl Scout field trip!

Meeting No. 8 - Managing Your Money

The girls were excited to get back into the swing of meetings after a super busy cookie season! We spent 3 meetings covering skills the girls should practice when using their money! During this meeting, they cut out their elf items and used pretend money in their handbook to practice paying for the items.

Welcome Jillian! We are so glad you decided to join our troop!

2012 Booth Sales

The girls had a GREAT Booth Sale season. They all learned the ups and downs of running a business. They learned how to work with each other in order to get the job done. They also got to practice their customer service skills! After 17 booth sales - these girls are business pros!! I just want to thank each parent who volunteered to help, whether it was just bringing your daughter, or staying to help out. This cookie season was a great one! Congrats to Troop 457 on a JOB WELL DONE!

The girls met at my house and began to prepare for the start of booth sales! They traced their hands and ironed them onto the table cloth (that looked AWESOME!) They also made posters to hold during sales, and we discussed booth etiquette!

Girl Scout of The Month - February

Every month, a member of troop 457 is featured in the "Girl Scout of the Month," section in the newsletter that is mailed out to all the girls. It includes a picture of her and some of her favorite things! The Girl Scout of the month also receives a special patch!
Emily's favorite shoes are her sandals. Her favorite book is Junie B. Jones, and she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up! She loves apple juice and her favorite place to go is the park! More of Emily's favorites are headed your way in the February Newsletter!
