Dallas Children's Theater

Today we traveled to Dallas Children's Theater to see Madeline's Christmas! This theater is one of the neatest places for children(and adults!) The girls waited patiently for over an hour before we could be seated! We got the best seats in the house!!

After the play, all of the characters came to the foyer to sign autographs and to take pictures! How cool is that! The girls thought it was so neat to meet these actors/actresses in person!

What a great experience for the troop! We will be back for sure!

Christmas Party 2012

Candy, crafts, Christmas music, yummy food and a surprise..today was our troop Christmas party! First the girls painted ornaments that we received from the Pottery Cafe in Tyler. I can't wait to see them after the are fired in the kiln! They were so pretty!

Then we finished up a try-it with a paper bag Santa! The girls were so serious while coloring and cutting!

The girls also learned how to take Christmas tree trimmings and create a wreath with them! They added bells, ribbon, bows, etc! These were so much fun! Thank you to Home Depot for donating these tree trimmings to our troop!

 Merry Christmas from Troop 457!

Meeting No. 5 - Lights, Camera...ACTING!

Today we created an imaginary stage at our normal meeting spot so the girls could experience a day of "make-believe!" They each took turns being a mime acting out a situation, seeing if the other girls could guess what she was doing! Then they had to get together as a group, come up with an event or situation, and act it out in front of the parents to see if we could guess what they were! They did a great job working together on this!
(roasting marshmallows!)
Most girls this age love dressing up and pretending, so when I gave them a tub full of fun dress up clothes and told them to pick whatever they wanted, they were pretty excited!

They decided they wanted to switch costumes after a few minutes to see what it was like to be a different character!

The girls earned their "Lets Pretend" Try-It!

Girl Scout of The Month - December

Every month, a member of troop 457 is featured in the "Girl Scout of the Month," section in the newsletter that is mailed out to all the girls. It includes a picture of her and some of her favorite things! The Girl Scout of the month also receives a special patch!
Madi's favorite color is hot pink. Her favorite book is Magic Pony, and she wants to be a cake decorator when she grows up! She loves shopping at Justice and her favorite piece of candy is a tootsie roll! More of Madi's favorites are headed your way in the December Newsletter!

Investiture Ceremony

Today was an exciting day for all 9 girls and myself! During the past few months, the girls have been learning about all of the patches and badges that go on the front of their vest. They each choose an emblem to learn about and to present at the ceremony. All of their hard work paid off...they received all of their patches and badges today!

They preformed their first flag ceremony! They also held their first candle ceremony. These candles represent the law and the promise and how they brighten the life of the Girl Scouts who observe them. Each girl lit a candle as we read the Girl Scout Promise and the Law.

Each girl received her insignia tab and pins. They were all afraid I was going to poke them when I pinned it to their vest!

Promising to carry the flame of Girl Scouting forever in their hearts, the girls gathered around the candles and softly blew them out together.

A reception followed the ceremony. Family and friends all gathered in a circle, right arm over left, and proceeded with the brownie circle ritual that the girls love. They enjoyed seeing their family participate in this fun activity. There were even a few giggles from the parents!

We are officially Girl Scouts! Congratulations!

The Park & Pottery Cafe

We hit the road with one destination in mind: The Pottery Cafe in Tyler, Texas!

We stopped at a park before heading to the cafe so the girls could run off all the energy they had from sitting in the car for so long.

The girls (and I) were so excited to finally make it to The Pottery Cafe!
The cafe was AWESOME!

First we got a tour of the cafe and then the girls had their own private party room where Susan taught the girls how to make a pinch pot.

They molded their own pots and then painted them. They all did a fabulous job!
Thank you Susan at The Pottery Cafe in Tyler, Texas - this was a great experience, we will be back soon!

Photo Shoot with Michelle Crook Photography

The girls had so much fun during their photo shoot with Michelle Crook Photography! They posed by themselves, as a troop, made funny faces, and got sassy at times! They girls did a great job listening to her instructions! We look forward to our next photo shoot with Michelle! Check out her website!!
